Thorsten Hüffer

Thorsten Hüffer is an environmental chemist and Senior Scientist at the Department of Environmental Geosciences, University of Vienna. His research focuses on the environmental fate, transport, and transformation of tire wear particles and tire-derived compounds, with particular emphasis on their occurrence across aquatic and terrestrial environments. His work combines environmental chemistry, analytical mass spectrometry, and field investigations to study the release, partitioning, and uptake of tire-derived contaminants in rivers, soils, sediments, and plants. He has contributed to advancing the understanding of tire wear as an emerging environmental contaminant through studies on environmental monitoring, contaminant partitioning, plant uptake, and the behavior of tire-derived chemicals in urban and agricultural systems.
