Toyo
As a tire manufacturing and sales company that supports a society of safe mobility, Toyo believes that one of its most important duties is to help drivers learn how to use tires appropriately. Since the emergence of COVID-19, demand for cars as a mode of transportation
has increased, and with it the need to further improve awareness of safety precautions, such as regularly checking tire pressure and driving carefully in adverse weather. Toyo Tire Corporation and sales subsidiary Toyo Tire Japan Co., Ltd. thus run tire safety awareness activities to help meet this need.
Using its proprietary driving simulator, the company encourages drivers to experience conditions such as hydroplaning, the maneuverability of the vehicle under different tire pressures, and the difference between worn and new tires when braking on wet roads or getting a puncture. Each year, Toyo runs tire safety awareness events to educate drivers. In
2022, more than 1,000 drivers participated at six locations around Japan. Toyo will continue using the driving simulator to further boost interest in tires and help make drivers aware of how to use them properly.

Bridgestone
Established in 2022, Bridgestone’s Global Road Safety Task Force (RSTF) aims to enhance the group’s current road safety efforts globally. Being aware of its contribution to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Target 3.6 (to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents) and the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, the RSTF has transformed the group’s local initiatives into one global synergistic program – the Bridgestone Road Safety Program (BRSP) – in cooperation with the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) – an international NPO that promotes traffic safety activities by connecting companies, development/government agencies, civil society organizations, etc. – which will start on a trial basis in 2023. To execute the BRSP, Bridgestone, also in collaboration with GRSP, developed the playbook as an internal guide and shared it with global teammates.
In conjunction with the BRSP, in July 2022 Bridgestone Corporation announced that it would donate 1.0 million USD (approximately 129 million JPY) to the United Nations Road Safety Fund (UNRSF) over the four-year period from 2022 to 2025. Bridgestone aims to respond to the growing expectations of the global community for road safety by using its partnership with UNRSF to enhance its global road safety activities.
In 2022, 47 initiatives related to road safety were implemented in 17 countries, including 38 initiatives with external partners, involvement by 1,036 employee volunteers, and reached 96,169 people from the community.
