What are the biggest challenges with the procurement and availability of natural rubber?

The rising demand for natural rubber increases sustainability challenges including environmental concerns, such as deforestation and water pollution, and social issues like an absence of fair labor practices.

Ensuring a stable and sustainable supply chain is complex, making the industry vulnerable to supply risks and disruptions. That is why the creation of The Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) – spearheaded by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) Tire Industry Project (TIP) – was such an important milestone for the natural rubber industry.

GPSNR is a multi-stakeholder organization including not only tire manufacturers but all supply chain actors from smallholders to end users and civil society.
